Recreation

Mission Statement

Our mission, as part of the United Methodist Church, is to provide children with the opportunity to learn basic skills in a variety of sports, while teaching them good sportsmanship, positive attitude and the importance of having fun, within a loving and Christian environment.
The Recreation Ministry provides for recreation and fellowship opportunities for all ages in the church and community for basketball, tennis, volleyball, game nights, etc. Sports and camps for children are instructional in nature and offer an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of a sport in a Christian environment.

Goals

  • To teach good sportsmanship
  • To teach the importance of teamwork, while growing individuals’ skills
  • To instill a good sense of moral behaviors
  • To teach the importance of showing respect to coaches, as well as peers

What Makes Our Programs Different?

As members of the United Methodist Church we strive to provide your children with a unique opportunity unlike other recreation programs. We will not only teach them the basic skills, but our goal is to also teach them the importance of good sportsmanship and respect for their coaches as well as their teammates. We will strive for your child to have fun at the same time as learning.

Our Activities

Pickleball

Pickleball is a sport in which two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules similar to tennis.

Pasadena currently has the following dates and times for pickleball held in the Life Enrichment Center:

Monday 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Monday 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Advanced players only, please)
Tuesday 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Friday 9:30 a.m. – Noon

Youth Soccer

The PCC Youth Soccer program is a Christian based non-competitive league designed to provide a safe and fun environment for children in grades pre-K-12th to learn fundamentals of soccer.

After School Sports Programs

The After School Sports Programs are offered to ALL school children. Each 3 week series of activities offers a variety of sports and skills. Every week the activity is changed to allow all the students to use previously taught skills and to apply them in a new sports concept. The programs are designed to teach a variety of sports and skills to the students while providing sound fundamentals and techniques for all the activities.

Students range from Pre-K through 5th grade. The lower grade classes meet from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., and the upper grade classes (K – 5th) run from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. The students who participate in our sports programs enjoy the challenges presented to them in each new activity.

Youth Basketball

Pasadena Community Church’s youth basketball program is a Christian-based, non-competitive league. Players are taught fundamental basketball skills during weekly practices and have the chance to demonstrate the skills learned in a weekly game against another team. We begin each practice and game with a prayer and will share prayer concerns and praises with one another. Our program consists of players ranging from first grade through twelfth grade. Our program runs for 8 weeks in the summer (June – August) and winter (January – March).
