Ask the Assistant to the Bishop
May 22 @ 10:10 am - 11:10 am
On Sunday, May 22 from 10:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. in the Hamiton Auditorium we will have “ASK THE Assistant to the Bishop” this session will focus on the UMC’s path forward with the formation of the Global Methodist Church. The plan is called the Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace through Separation. Two of the main underlying issues in this movement are allowing the ordination of openly gay pastors and embracing same-sex marriages in the United Methodist Church, issues that The General Conference will discuss and likely vote on in 2024. Also in 2024, the General Conference will vote on how individual churches that disaffiliate from the UMC and decide to join the Global Methodist Church can do so with clear title to all of their property and assets. And the UMC is considering giving the disaffiliating churches startup money if they leave to form a new congregation.
Rev. Shanks will explain where the church is in the process, in the negotiations with congregations seeking to leave the UMC, and what all of this means to congregations like Pasadena.
